Jamie Foxx breaks silence on medical complications: ‘I’ve been to hell and back’

Jamie Foxx has spoken publicly about undisclosed “medical complications” that led him to the hospital back in April. In a new video posted to Instagram, the actor — without sharing details of what the complication involves — thanked fans for their well-wishes and assured them he was on the road to recovery.

“I want to say thank you to everyone who has prayed, sent me letters… I can’t even begin to tell you how far it took me and how it brought me back,” said Fox. “I went through something that I thought would never go through. And I know a lot of people have been waiting or wanting to hear updates, but to be honest with you, I didn’t want you to see me like this. I want you to see me laugh, have a good time, party, make a joke, do a movie, make a TV show. I didn’t want you to see me pipe running out of me trying to see if I’d make it through.”

Fox shouted at his daughter, Corinne Fox, and sister, Deondra Dixon, to “save his life” and to keep the details of his illness secret. “So for them, by God, for so many great doctors, I can leave you this video. I can’t tell you what a great feeling it is for your family to go off like that. And you know they kept it tight. They left nothing out. They protected me. And that’s what I hope everyone gets in moments like this.”

The actor dispelled rumors that his illness had left him blind or paralyzed, but maintained that his stint in the hospital was not the smoothest of experiences. “I went to hell and back. And my road to recovery had some potholes, too. “But I do come back and be able to work, so I want to thank the people who let me work.”

“I love everyone and I love all the love I get,” Foxx concluded with her growing emotion. “If from now on you see me all the while bursting into tears, it is because it was hard. I was sick. But now you put my legs under me, you will see me.” Watch the full video below

Despite returning home in May, Foxx wasn’t seen in public after his April 12 hospitalization until earlier this month, when fans spotted him on a yacht on the Chicago River.
