The attack took place around 7:40 a.m. local time (12:40 a.m. Paris time) in the city of Lianjiang, located in Guangdong province, according to the state-backed media, China News Network.
China prohibits its citizens from owning firearms. But stabbing attacks have increased in recent years in the country.
Deadly attacks specifically targeting schools have occurred across the country, prompting authorities to tighten security around schools.
