The five restaurants that will be competing for the Sliderfest People’s Choice Award have been nominated.
Back in the competition, the Defenders are The Butcher and the Banker along with The Righteous Monger (Kame & Kettle) of Fonthill. Competing for the first time was 1954 Bourbon & Smoke from St. Catharines, Cooking Lessons from Fonthill and The Smokin’ Buddha from Port Colborne.
“We’re excited to see what our chefs have to offer this year,” said Pat O’Hara, President of Fonthill Lions. Sliderfest is a great opportunity to showcase what our local restaurants have to offer.
Participating chefs include Kevin Ecklin (The Smokin’ Buddha), Blair Millington-Hogg (1954 Bourbon and Smoke), Mark Hand (Righteous Monger – Kame & Kettle), Shane Hatcher (Butcher and Banker), and Sheldon Beaton (Cookout).
Sliderfest is a friendly competition between five local restaurants vying for the honor of the best slider. In addition to the food, Sliderfest features live music, dancing, games, activities, a grand prize, a raffle, and a 50/50 raffle. New this year is an experimental silent auction with unique experiences.
This year’s event returns on August 12 after a three-year absence due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Sliderfest is a fun way to engage the community,” said Don Fluet, owner of Dan4U Contracting, the event’s presentation sponsor. “And who doesn’t love a friendly competition between the chefs?”
Guests in attendance—tickets are limited to 500—will experience each of the five specialty slides and be encouraged to vote for their favourite. The winning restaurant will receive a Top Slider trophy and bragging rights for the next 12 months.
Live entertainment will feature local blues band The Rhythm Hounds, who will take the stage at 5 p.m.
Early bird tickets (purchased before June 30) are $35 plus HST and include one of each of the five slices, a serving of Fonthill Lions fries, local corn on the cob, and a soft drink. Entry is free for children under 12 years old. Children’s dishes include hot dogs and hash browns. Individual sliders will be available for purchase.
Tickets are on sale now at www.sliderfest.ca or by email at info@sliderfest.ca.
