Aisha Tyler, Lara Dave and Josh Singer join Kyle Meredith to talk about their new series on Apple TV+ The last thing he said to me. The show tells the story of a woman who must have a relationship with her 16-year-old step-daughter in order to find out the truth about her husband’s mysterious disappearance. Tyler stars with Jennifer Garner, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, and Angourie Rice.
Dave, who wrote the bestselling novel on which the show is based, and Singer, her husband and co-author, tell us how the seed for the idea came from seeing the Enron CEO’s wife come to terms with her husband’s crimes.
“I got caught up in the idea of: Can we know the people we like? And what does it mean to try to get to know the people we like?” Dave explains.
They also touch on the importance of needle drops The last thing he said to me, which includes the Springsteen Classic and Emmylou Harris as Garner’s Favorite Artist. Tyler also rehearses the music, gushes about when she puts Metallica in an elevator, and tells us how doing more directing affects how she gets into a role.
