Over three hours of Frank Zappa’s newfound music is set to receive an official release as a compilation called Nothing funky. Set to be released on June 30 via Zappa/UMe, it is believed that the music was intended for a sequel hot mice the avant-garde rock band’s 1969 debut solo; As a preview, you can hear his previously unreleased song “Work With Me Annie/Annie Had a Baby” now.
Freshly dug from Zappa’s cellar, Nothing funky It will include 25 rare and unreleased tracks, plus various tracks, covers and jams from the 1970’s studio sessions with Zappa’s core group: Aynsley Dunbar, Don “Sugarcane” Harris, Ian Underwood and Max Bennett. Physical copies will arrive on double or triple LP formats, and pre-orders are ongoing.
“Nothing funky It delivers on all fronts, showcasing Zappa’s love of rhythm and blues, and capturing a place hot mice Extensive instrumental rehearsals that fuse rock, jazz, and classical elements left behind music that can only be described as Zappa,” reads Joe Travers, who put the group together along with Zappa’s son Ahmed Zappa.

“Work With Me Annie/Annie Had a Baby” is a mashup of two 1954 songs of the same name, originally sung by Hank Ballard and The Midnighters. With “Sugarcane” Harris singing vocals, Zappa’s version leans more into bluegrass jams.
