Saturday, March 25th, marks the one-year anniversary of Taylor Hawkins’ sudden death. In honor of longtime Foo Fighters drummer, 100 Belgian drummers recently gathered for a massive group cover of “My Hero” at Sportpaleis Antwerp, the last venue Hawkins ever performed in the country.
If this concept sounds familiar to you, you might consider Rockin’1000, a band of 1,000 Foo Fighters diehards who covered “Learn to Fly” in a (successful!) attempt to lure Dave Grohl and company to their small Italian town. Rockin’1000 also approved in May 2022 their special rendition of “My Hero” in an emotional tribute to Hawkins. Even though this Belgian crew is significantly smaller in size, it still highlights how influential and still the drummer is — not that we need to be reminded.
Filling out the rest of the arrangement on guitar, bass and vocals is Belgian rock band Black Box Revelation, set up in the center of the arena while an additional 100 drummers surround them in a grid formation. Watch them perform “My Hero” in memory of Hawkins below.

Hawkins’ surviving bandmates and huge list of famous musician friends also put together two star-studded concerts in London and Los Angeles this past September. The Foo Fighters will embark on their first tour since the tragedy that began in May, including a festival appearance at Sonic Temple in Columbus, Ohio; Bonnaroo in Manchester, Tennessee; Ottawa Bluesfest in Ottawa, Ontario; And the Sea now listen in Asbury Park, NJ.
