Pantera first concert in 21 years: video and tracklist

by admin

Pantera – at least the new incarnation of the legendary band – played their first show in 21 years on Friday night (December 2). The long-awaited performer performed 15 songs at the Hell & Heaven festival outside Mexico City.

Joining classical members Philip Anselmo (vocals) and Rex Brown (bass) are guitarist Zack Wilde (Ozzy Osbourne, Black Label Society) and drummer Charlie Benante (Anthrax) in the band’s revamped lineup. The latter two have the daunting task of filling in for the late Dimebag brothers Darrell and Vinnie Paul, respectively.

Pantera kicked off the group with “A New Level” and then released on “Mouth for War,” both from 1992. vulgar display of force. After that, it was four consecutive singles from 1994 Beyond driven (“Strength Beyond Strength”, “Becoming”, “I’m Broken” and “Use My Third Arm”). In fact, the collection was mostly drawn from these two albums.

Other highlights included “Fucking Hostile” and its cover of Black Sabbath’s “Planet Caravan”, as well as “5 Minutes Alone”, “Cowboys From Hell” (which was soundchecked the night before) and the close-up “Walking”.

While the shows are billed entirely as Pantera, the Vinnie Ball estate, along with Wylde and Benante, were wary of calling the tour a “celebration” rather than a “reunion”. Some fans expressed discontent with the group being called Pantera, given the iconic legacy of Vinnie and Dimepage, but judging by the video footage of the first show, the band was greeted with great enthusiasm at their first gig.

Hell & Heaven’s Latin American festival, which runs through December 18, has made its debut at Knotfest Brazil in São Paulo.
